There was a pair of twin girls at my elementary school named Fairy and Pixie.

I think this is a cute nickname! I wouldn't use it as a real name but as a nickname is super cute. I would use it with Sofia and call her Fairy for fun and Fia!

Okay, you're also right. When I look up the origins/meaning of Fae, it said that it was from the name Faith, and meant trustworthiness. However, apparently Fae (the name itself, not the fairy/faerie thing) also comes from Faye/Fay as an alternative spelling.

Fairies, Fay, Faeries, Fae... they're all related.
"Faerie stories, on the other hand, are stories about the fae: otherworldly, unpredictable, and dangerous creatures who appear in the folk-tales and myths of England and Ireland. In origin, of course, the fairies and the fae are one and the same, but the connotations and usage of the words today are headed in opposite directions." http://english.stackexchang...

While I would agree with you, Fae means faith, and is derived from a different name. Maybe Fay or Faye? Same meaning, but different spelling and sound eliminates most of the 'fairy' part of the name.

Fae is a cute, subtle alternative if you find Fairy too much.
